Peggy Rosario became the fifth player in Georgian Court University's volleyball history to achieve the 1,000-kill career mark as the junior eclipsed the milestone mark in Wednesday evening's 3-0 shutout of visiting Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional action.
The Toa Baja, Puerto Rico native belted the blast for the Lions' 17th point in the third set, joining
Angie Casado (1,379),
Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez (1,377),
Sherry Keech (1,062) and
Janelle Murdock (1,057) on this elite list.
Rosario paced the home team with a match-high 21 kills as the Lions needed just 1:16 to dismiss the 9-21 Griffins (8-10 CACC) by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-17. Georgian Court, at 12-19 (10-8 CACC), keeps its playoff dreams intact with the victory.
Ashley Pierson dished a career-high 30 assists, to go along with 11 digs, as the freshman collected her sixth double-double effort of the year.
Aubrey Binkley (16) and
Gaby Merced (15) each reached double-digits in the digs column.
Shana Rayside owned the net with five blocks on the night while
Amy Bruno registered 11 kills and four blocks of her own.
The postseason push will play out Friday afternoon when the Lions host the University of the Sciences at 5:00 p.m. in another crucial CACC contest.
