Georgian Court Men Push Jefferson to Limit in 69-60 CACC Setback

Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad pushed visiting Jefferson to the limit Saturday afternoon as the Rams pulled away late for the 69-60 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional victory in the GCU Wellness Center.

Jefferson evens its overall record at 5-5 (1-0 CACC) while the Lions remain winless at 0-9 (0-1 CACC).

The Rams opened a 16-7 advantage at the 13:17 mark, courtesy of a Kaison Randolph (Sr.-Trenton, N.J.) three-pointer. Georgian Court proceeded to mount a 13-3 run to slip ahead, 20-19, with 5:44 to go before intermission. With the score knotted at 22 (4:14), the Lions provided a 10-7 push to escape into the locker room ahead by four (30-26).

GCU opened a game-high eight-point advantage after an emphatic dunk (12:43) by Tony Ellington, Jr. put the home team up, 40-32. The Rams immediately rallied back with a neat 8-0 run to tie the game at 40-40 with 10:09 to go. After the foes each exchanged another field goal, Jefferson took off on a 17-9 sprint, capped by a Kylan Guerra (So.-White Plains, N.Y.) three-pointer with 4:27 left in regulation.

A pair of free throws by Randolph provided the victors their largest surplus of the contest at 69-58.

Despite the result, the Lions out-shot the Rams, 45.1% to 42.6% from the field.

Randolph paced Jefferson with his game-high 21 points, followed by Alexander Gorton (Fr.-Jonesboro, Ark.) with 18. Yevgen Sakhniuk (Sr.-Kiev, Ukraine) and Kylan Guerra (five assists) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Juwuan Carter, who was honored before the game with a ball commemorating his 1,000th career point (11/21 vs. LIU Post), poured in a team-high 18 points. Nikola Vujovic shot six-for-eight from the floor for 14 points while Caleb Bowser reached double-digits with 10 points.

The Lions hit the road Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. divisional contest at University of the Sciences.
