Lakewood, N.J. - Looking to extend its unbeaten streak to 14 straight games, the Georgian Court University men's soccer squad fell flat as visiting Queens (N.Y.) College stunned its host with a 3-2, come-from-behind victory Tuesday afternoon in NCAA Division II non-conference action.
GCU (4-1-1) appeared well on its way to another triumph as
Vinicius Monteiro blasted a
Daniel Chochlinski feed for his third goal of the year to put the Lions ahead, 1-0, in the 33rd minute (32:56).
The advantage would hold until the 55th minute (54:56) when
Pedro Lamarre (So.-Old Westbury, N.Y.) netted the first of three unanswered tallies for the Knights (3-2).
Daniel Saint Louis (Sr.-Valley Stream, N.Y.) and
Emgi Gousse (So.-Amityville, N.Y.) provided the remaining Queens' scoring efforts at 64:17 and 84:25, respectively, to put the clutch road victory on ice.
Javel Dawkins connected on his second successful penalty kick of the season at 89:23 for the Lions, but the outcome was all but solidified at that point.
Robert Retnauer (Jr.-St. James, N.Y.) took home the win in net for the Knights (two saves).
Yianni Kavarakas was tagged with the loss for GCU (three saves) in 45:00 of action.
Jamie Hickey started at keeper for Georgian Court and did not face a shot on frame during his 45-minute session.
The Lions outshot Queens, 17-14, but the Knights clubbed two more shots on goal (6-4).
Georgian Court now looks forward to a key CACC showdown this Saturday afternoon when the Lions host Concordia (N.Y.) College at 2:30 p.m.
