Flushing, N.Y. - For the fourth straight season, the Georgian Court University women's soccer squad and Queens College have treated the fans to not one, but TWO overtime sessions as the non-conference foes played to a 3-3 double OT stalemate Tuesday afternoon.
GCU defeated the Knights a year ago, 2-1, at 108:00 while the evenly-matched opponents played to 1-1 and 0-0 draws in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Queens (1-3-1) opened the scoring in the 27th minute (26:29) when
Guro Eriksen (So.-Drammen, Norway) connected on her third goal of the year. The surplus was increased to two early in the second half (49:15) after
Erin Vernillo's (Sr.-Smithtown, N.Y.) second goal of the season.
GCU roared back behind the boot of
Erin Wimmer as the freshman drilled two goals just 3:20 apart to tie the affair at 2-2 in the 61st minute (60:06). The euphoria did not last long for the Lions as Vernillo countered to give Queens the lead at 84:07 on the senior's second scoring-effort of the afternoon.
The Knights would go on to enjoy its slim one-goal lead for an entire 1:27 as the legendary right leg of
Morgan LaDuca crunched a free kick deep from the left side and over the Queens goalkeeper to knot the score at 3-3 and guarantee a hard-fought point for the 2-2-1 Lions.
Victoria Stahl, in her third straight start in net for Georgian Court, registered a lone save in the complete-game effort.
Nicole Cranny (Sr.-Abbeyleix, Ireland) denied four shots in her 110:00 minutes of action for Queens.
The Lions remain on the road with a trek to NYIT this Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
