Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad continues to seek its first taste of victory as the Lions opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition Wednesday evening with a 3-1 setback at Holy Family University.
GCU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an exciting 27-25 first-set win, but failed to recapture that initial energy in the remaining sets, falling 18-25, 11-25, and 15-25.
Chase Wassel (Jr.-North Wales, Pa.) topped the hometown Tigers (5-3, 1-0 CACC) with an eye-popping double-double effort consisting of 22 kills and 23 assists.
Gianna Pesognelli (So.-Phoenix, Ariz.) added 14 kills while
Natalie Stewart (Jr.-York, Pa.) distributed 46 assists.
As for the Lions, the trio of
Aubrey Binkley,
Jasmine Martin and
Peggy Rosario each tallied a team-best six kills while
Ashley Pierson dished a team-high 18 assists.
Gaby Merced settled under 15 digs, followed by Rosario with 11.
GCU (0-8, 0-1 CACC) next travels to Molloy College this Saturday for a non-conference tri-match vs. Bentley University (1:00 p.m.) and the host-Lions (3:00 p.m.).
