Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad hosted its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match of the season Tuesday night as visiting Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia) University downed the host-Lions, 3-1 (25-11, 18-25, 25-17, 25-15) in a match featuring two teams from the CACC South.
The reigning conference champions improve to 6-5 (2-0 CACC) with the victory while GCU remains winless with an 0-11 mark (0-2 CACC).
Courtney Wensel (Jr.-Bechtelsville, Pa.) shined for the victors with a double-double effort consisting of 16 kills and 15 digs.
Corinne Justus (Sr.-Allentown, Pa.) smacked 13 kills to go along with a mighty nine blocks.
Abigail Kress (Fr.-Lansdale, Pa.) blasted 11 kills while
Alexandra Harrington (Jr.-St. Leonard, Md.) distributed a match-best 53 assists.
Amy Bruno crunched a team-high 12 kills, followed by
Aubrey Binkley and
Shana Rayside with nine apiece.
Ashley Pierson and
Jackie Sweeney dished 23 and 13 assists, respectively, while
Gaby Merced controlled the back line with her 13 digs.
The Lions will now travel to visit rival-Wilmington University Friday night in a 7:00 p.m. CACC divisional battle.
