Lafayette Hill, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad took the pitch under the bright lights of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Wednesday evening as the Lions took on host-Chestnut Hill College in a primetime Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt.
After an initial goal by the Griffins (3-6, 2-3 CACC), the Lions responded with three unanswered tallies to secure the eventual 3-2 triumph, raising GCU's record to 6-2-2 (3-1-1 CACC) on the year.
Mike Buscemi (Sr.-Rockville, Md.) put the home team on the board in the 13th minute (12:26) with a header, courtesy of a
Paris Bruhn (So.- Horst Holstein, Germany) feed.
Javel Dawkins netted the equalizer for Georgian Court at 34:14 after a dazzling dribbling demonstration resulted in the sophomore's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Joel Quist (65:16) and
Daniel Vicente (80:13) proceeded to contribute scores of their own in the second half to provide the Lions a sturdy 3-1 advantage. Chestnut Hill's
Joseph Casaletto (Sr.-Sewell, N.J.) drilled a close range goal at 82:16, but that would be the end of the Griffins' offensive onslaught.
Yianni Kavarakas improved to 6-2-2 in the GCU net, compiling three saves on 15 Chestnut Hill shots. The Lions registered 18 shots on the night, including nine on frame.
GCU now heads home to host Bloomfield College this Saturday afternoon for a special Homecoming Day start of 3:30 p.m. The CACC contest will be played on the campus's turf field.
