Wilmington, Del.- The Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball squad never trailed Wednesday evening as the hometown Lightning dismissed visiting Georgian Court University, 75-65, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional hoops action.
The win gives GBC its tenth triumph on the year (10-8, 6-3 CACC) while the visiting Lions dip to 3-14 (3-6 CACC) overall.
The Lightning entered intermission with a 30-24 advantage after having led by as many as 12 points (18-6, 11:24) in the session. That surplus would grow to a game-high 16 after a pair of
Corey Taite (Sayreville, N.J.) free throws put the home team ahead, 56-40, with 8:45 remaining in regulation.
Taite led all scorers with his 24 points on the night, including the 1,000th of the junior's career.
Dante Thompson (Sr.-Coram, N.Y.) enjoyed a double-double effort consisting of 12 points and 11 boards while
Mahir Johnson (Jr.-Chester, Pa.) drained 16 of his own.
Caleb Bowser once again eclipsed the 20-point mark for GCU with his team-leading 21 on the night.
Nikola Vujovic, after a CACCÂ Honor Roll mention on Monday, continued his strong play with 17 points and eight boards.
Sean Barksdale contributed his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while
Juwuan Carter drained 12 points for the road team.
The Lions return to action Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. with a CACCÂ road contest at Dominican College.
