Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad is now the owner of its first two-game winning streak since January of 2016 as the Lions held on for a 77-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional road victory Wednesday evening at Holy Family University.
After defeating Chestnut Hill College at home on Saturday, the Lions (2-11, 2-3 CACC) now have their longest winning streak since winning three straight from Jan. 12-27, 2016. The Tigers drop to 2-10 (1-4 CACC) with the home setback.
Coming out of intermission with a slight 37-33 advantage, GCU opened the second stanza with a 24-16 push to take a commanding 12-point lead (61-49) with 12:49 to go in regulation. The Lions would hold on to their double-digit surplus as late as the 4:10 mark (71-61) before Holy Family rallied for a 12-3 surge to inch to within one (74-73) with 18 ticks left.
Clutch free-throw shooting provided the cushion the Lions would need as
Caleb Bowser and
Bryce Council hit on three-of-four attempts from the charity stripe during the closing seconds to tame the Tigers and escape with the always-tough road win.
Bowser dazzled in the triumph as the sophomore shined in his hometown with 10 rebounds and a team season-high 27 points to earn his first double-double of the year.
Nikola Vujovic authored his team-leading third double-double effort of the season with 18 points and 10 boards.
Omar Williams registered his second straight 17-point performance in the contest.
Â
Terrell Jones (Fr.-Ardmore, Pa.) topped Holy Family with his 26 points and five assists.
Mekhi Bryant (Jr.-Fairless Hills, Pa.) and
Jalen Thompson (Jr.-Wilmington, Del.) followed with 19 and 14 points, respectively.
GCU looks to equal that three-game winning streak from two years ago Saturday afternoon with another CACCÂ divisional road game, this time at Wilmington University. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
