Newark, Del. - Battling back from a pair of deficits, the Georgian Court University women's soccer squad gladly accepted the point in the standings as the Lions and Wilmington University battled to a 1-1, double-overtime tie Tuesday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
The stalemate, GCU's first in conference play since a 0-0 tie at Post University back on October 8, 2016, gives the Lions a one-point lead atop the CACCÂ Standings over Goldey-Beacom College. Wilmington currently places fifth overall with a record of 6-3-1 (7-8-1 on the year).
The Wildcats pounced early as
Rebecca Dolhansky (Sr.-Blackwood, N.J.) clubbed her fourth goal of the year at 4:31. Georgian Court countered soon after (10:41) when
Heather Arbachesky gathered a
Krystal Hund feed and sent in her 12th tally of the year. GCU's dynamic duo now leads the roster with 12 goals and eight helpers apiece.
The 1-1 knotting would hold tight until the 71st minute at which time Wilmington's
Kiana Jedlicka (Fr.-Poughquag, N.Y.) found the net for her first collegiate goal. Again, the Wildcats' surplus would be short-lived as All-American
Anissia Fucci connected with a
Kaitlyn Salisbury pass for her fifth score of the season, ultimately saving the day for the road team.
GCU dominated the shots column with a 27-9 margin (15-3 SOG) over 110:00 of action.Â
The Lions (10-3-1, 9-0-1 CACC) stay on the road to take on the aforementioned Eagles of Post with a 12:00 p.m. match this Saturday in Waterbury, Connecticut.
