Newark, Del.- For the first time in 2018, Georgian Court University was kept off the scoreboard as the Lions were denied by Wilmington University, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer action.
The Lions, 12-3 (8-2 CACC) on the year, now own a slim one-point lead over the victorious Wildcats (10-1-4, 7-1-2 CACC) atop the conference standings. The shutout marks GCU's first since falling at Bloomfield College, 1-0, in last season's CACC Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
The match remained scoreless up until the the very end of the 69th minute (68:59) when Wilmington's
Tom Garratt (Jr.-Kingswinford, England) drained a penalty kick for his 10th tally of the season. The Wildcats pounced again just moments later (70:06) as
Will Stone (Sr.-Littlehampton, England) ripped his seventh of the year to secure the win.
WU outshot the Lions, 10-6, with both clubs getting off four shots on goal.
Vinny Tasca (Sr.-Audubon, Pa.) secured the win in net for the Wildcats while
Jamie Hickey suffered his first loss of the year (9-1) in frame for the Lions.
Georgian Court remains on the road for a trip to Post University this Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
