Waterbury, Conn. - Georgian Court men's soccer suffered its second setback of the week Saturday as the Lions fell at Post University, 3-2, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference competition.
GCU (12-4, 8-3 CACC) has now lost two straight contests for the first time since the 2016 campaign when, coincidentally, the Lions also lost at Wilmington and Post (Oct. 5 & Oct. 8). The host-Eagles improve to 8-6-1 on the year (7-2-1 CACC) with the victory.
Post found the net first on this day when
Phillimon Bedard -Khalid nailed his fifth of the season at 33:03. The Eagles' 1-0 surplus would hold until 50:33 when
Jonathan Firmino added to his career-high goal total with his fourth of the year, courtesy of a
Vinicius Monteiro helper.
The tie would hold until 59:54 as Post's
Sergio Diaz snapped the stalemate with his 11th tally before Diaz's assist found the foot of
Alvaro Sanchez in the 83rd minute (82:24), essentially putting the match out of reach.
Joel Quist connected on his fifth on the season for Georgian Court at 88:23, but the Lions would simply run out of time.
Georgian Court returns home to close out the regular season Tuesday afternoon vs. Holy Family University at 3:30 p.m. The Lions will honor its senior class prior to the match.
