Georgian Court Closes Out Regular-Season Slate With 1-1 Tie vs. Holy Family

Lakewood, N.J. - The 2018 regular season has come to a close as Georgian Court University clawed to a 1-1, double overtime stalemate vs. visiting Holy Family University Tuesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer action.

The Lions (12-4-1, 8-3-1 CACC) now look ahead to the postseason as GCU prepares to host a quarterfinals match (opponent TBD) next Tuesday, October 30 on Investors Bank Field. Start time will be 2:00 p.m.

Georgian Court and the Tigers (6-10-1, 6-5-1 CACC) played nearly 86 complete minutes of scoreless soccer before the home team struck at the 85:44 mark. A feed by Giovanni Ciocca-Vasino, followed by an immediate pass from Javel Dawkins, set up Tommaso Rio, who booted the helper out of the air and into the HFU net, providing the home team a 1-0 surplus. Both Ciocca-Vasino and Dawkins earned assists on what was Rio's second tally of the season.

The thrill lasted a mere 56 seconds for the Lions as Holy Family's Prince Komoh (So.-Monrovia, Liberia) flipped back a David Diaz Vasco (Fr.-Roselle Park, N.J.) chip with his head, off a Tiger direct kick, to provide the equalizer. The goal was the first of the year for Komoh.

The two squads proceeded to expire the remainder of regulation, as well as a pair of ten-minute overtime sessions, and settle for the draw. The tie was the first for the Lions since September 23, 2017 when Georgian Court and Felician University also battled to a 1-1 final here in Lakewood.

GCU owned the shot column with a 21-12 advantage (9-2 SOG). Yianni Kavarakas earned the decision in the Lions' net, collecting a lone save in his 110:00. Mark Tobin (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) gathered eight saves for the Tigers in his complete-game effort.
