Lakewood, N.J.- A
Francisco Corral goal just 44 seconds into overtime punched Georgian Court University's ticket to Waterbury, Connecticut as the #3 Lions held off #6 Holy Family University, 2-1, to advance to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament semifinals this Friday at #2 Post University.
Louis Silva put GCU on the board first at 27:19 when the All-CACCÂ selection one-timed a
Vinicius Monteiro through-ball to put the home team ahead, 1-0. The Tigers (6-11-1) countered just 1:11 later as
Georg Montag (Fr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) clubbed a 20-yard attempt that deflected off a Georgian Court defender and hopped into the GCU net.
The score would stay knotted at 1-1 through the remainder of regulation, which set the stage for Georgian Court's magic moment. Silva served a corner kick just moments into the extra session, which was immediately one-timed by
Daniel Vicente to the boot of Corral, setting up the game-winner.
GCU owned the shots column with a 20-9 advantage and registered a 7-4 surplus regarding shots on frame.
Jamie Hickey improved to 10-1 in the Lions' net as the sophomore gathered two saves in the win.
Mark Tobin (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) took the tough-luck loss for the Tigers (five saves).
GCU now moves on to its second-ever CACC Final Four and will take on Post Friday at 1:30 p.m. The host-Eagles edged the visiting Lions, 3-2, in their lone meeting of the season back on October 20. The two squads faced off in an epic 2016 Championship Game with Georgian Court scoring a shootout victory for its first-ever CACC title.
