Philadelphia, Pa.- Georgian Court University women's volleyball traveled to Jefferson Saturday afternoon where the Lions bested the Lady Rams, 3-1, in a high-flying Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional showdown.
GCU snared the first two sets, which included a thrilling 32-30 winner in the second stanza. The home team battled back, 25-23, in the third frame before the Lions wrapped up the always-tough road win, 25-21, in the fourth-and-final frame. The victory marked Georgian Court's first in the Gallagher Center since Oct. 3, 2014 and the team's first season-sweep of Jefferson/Philadelphia University since that same season.
With the win, GCU (18-3, 18-8 CACC) finds itself in a tie for second place with the Lady Rams (21-9, 14-3 CACC) in the South Division standings. Holy Family University (24-5, 16-1 CACC) riding a 16-game winning streak, currently sits atop the leader board.
Three Lions authored double-double performances in the thriller, including:
Aubrey Binkley (14 kills, 21 digs),
Peggy Rosario (12 kills, 14 digs), and
Ashley Pierson (27 assists, 15 digs).
Shana Rayside and
Kayla Wilson also achieved double-digits in the kills column with 13 and 10, respectively.
Emily McCurley topped all players with her 21 digs on the day.
Trilby Kite distributed 22 helpers in the signature win.
Georgian Court looks to make it four-in-a-row Monday evening with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match vs. Lincoln University in the Wellness Center Arena.
