Lakewood, N.J. - #1-seed Georgian Court University clinched its fifth-straight Final Four appearance as the Lions handled #8 Dominican College Monday afternoon in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
The victory sets the stage for Friday's semifinal round when GCU takes on #4-seed Caldwell University in Waterbury, Connecticut (Municipal Stadium) at 11:00 a.m. The Cougars (10-6-1) advanced after dropping #5 Jefferson, 2-0, also on Monday. #2 Goldey-Beacom (15-4) and #3 Holy Family (12-4-1) will face off in the other semifinal match (1:30 pm) after securing first-round wins.
CACC Player of the Year,
Heather Arbachesky, led the way for the victors with a hat-trick performance, which gives the senior a team-best 16 goals on the year. All-CACC first-teamer,
Anissia Fucci, connected on a pair of tallies while CACC Rookie of the Year,
Krystal Hund, provided a goal and three assists.
Michaella Paradiso (game-winner),
Kristen Lister,
Nora Stapleton and
Emma Carney added the remaining scores for the Lions (13-3-1).
Natalie Axelsson, the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year, earned the win for Georgian Court, collecting a lone save in 63:09. The Lions out shot the Lady Chargers 34-9 (20-4 SOG).
Looking ahead, Georgian Court has defeated Caldwell in five straight regular-season meetings. It has been a different story in the postseason, however, as Caldwell owns a 2-1 record vs. the Lions, which includes a 1-0 victory in the 2016 championship game.
