Lyndhurst, N.J.- Felician University achieved the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer upset of the season Saturday night as the Golden Falcons knocked off #17 Georgian Court University, ending the Lions' program-best 10-game winning streak.
The win is the first for Felician in six overall matches vs. GCU (1-4-1).The victors, who came into the contest with just one triumph on the year, improve to 2-8-1 (2-5 CACC). Georgian Court slips to 10-2 (7-1 CACC).
After a scoreless first stanza, Felician's
Maxi Ojeda popped home a direct kick at 62:12 to put the home team ahead, 1-0. GCU's
Louis Silva answered with the equalizer at 81:25 with a short-range blast, courtesy of a
Nicholas Moran feed.
The stalemate would be short-lived (2:57) as
Gabe Viana crunched a one-timer from 15 yards out to put the Golden Falcons ahead, 2-1, leaving the Lions dumbfounded in the process.
Despite the outcome, GCU out-shot Felician, 16-13, including a 6-4 SOG surplus.
Joe Sarton took home the "W" in net for the Golden Falcons, gathering five saves in the 90-minute effort.
Yianni Kavarakas was saddled with the loss for the Lions, registering two saves in the effort.
GCU returns home to host Bloomsburg University Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
