Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad has now won seven straight contests for the first time since winning 11 consecutive matches during the CACCÂ championship year of 2009 as the Lions made quick work of visiting Bloomfield College, 3-0, Tuesday night in the GCU Wellness Center Arena.
Needing just 65 minutes, the Lions breezed past the Bears in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, 25-13) to improve to 11-1 in conference play (15-5 overall). Bloomfield drops to 3-19 (3-8 CACC).
Amy Bruno topped the club with nine kills on the night while also leading the victors with a pair of blocks. Freshman
Grace Finn put down seven kills in the win. The setting trio of
Jaime Sweeney,
Ashley Pierson and
Trilby Kite contributed 14, 10, and nine assists, respectively.
Starting libero,
Gaby Merced, controlled a team-best nine digs on the night.
The Lions now journey to Holy Family University this Saturday to take on the host-Tigers (11:00 a.m.) and Molloy College (1:00 p.m.) in a tri-match. GCU's last loss came against HFU, a five-set thriller, back on September 19 in the Wellness Center.
