Wilmington, Del.- In a warm-up for Tuesday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference postseason appearance, Georgian Court University volleyball closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory at Goldey-Beacom College.
GCU secured the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-17. The Lightning (7-22, 5-14 CACC) grabbed the third frame, 25-22, before the Lions nailed down a win of 26-24 to wrap up the win. Georgian Court's 16-3 CACC record is its best since finishing a perfect 19-0 during the team's championship season of 2009.
Aubrey Binkley (10 kills, 10 digs) and
Ashley Pierson (22 assists, 10 digs) each authored their eighth double-double of the year.
Peggy Rosario drilled a team-best 11 kills and fell one dig short of her own double-double performance.
Above the net,
Shana Rayside rejected seven GBC shots.
Amy Bruno and
Grace Fenn followed with five and three blocks apiece.
Emily McCurley topped all players with her 17 digs on the day.
The win clinches the South Division's #2-seed for the Lions as GCU (21-9 overall) gears up to host a quarterfinals match for the second time in three years. Georgian Court welcomes Nyack College, the #2-seed from the North Division, to the Wellness Center Tuesday evening at 6pm.
The Warriors (11-17, 10-9 CACC) dropped a 3-2 decision to the Lions back on September 11 in Nyack, N.Y.
