Lakewood, N.J.- Georgian Court University moves on to its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament semifinals as the Lions nailed down a 3-0 opening round victory vs. Nyack College Tuesday evening in the Wellness Center.
GCU, playing as the #2 seed in the South Division, completed the sweep with wins of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-14 to improve to 22-9 on the season. The Warriors, #3 in the North Division, conclude the campaign at 11-18.
Amy Bruno, announced as an All-CACC first-team selection earlier in the day, showed she belonged on that elite list as the junior topped the team with 10 digs and a sizzling hitting percentage of .412. Fellow All-CACC member,
Peggy Rosario, along with teammate
Grace Fenn, buried nine kills each, while
Shana Rayside followed with eight of her own.
Ashley Pierson and
Jaime Sweeney handled the distribution of assists with 20 apiece for the Lions.
Emily McCurley led all players with her 17 digs while Rosario joined in with 11.
For Nyack,
Kyra Zuhlke (So.-Johnstown, Colo.) shined with 10 kills on the night.
Rachel Medin (So.-San Diego, Calif.) authored a double-double of 24 assists and 12 digs in her season finale.
The Lions now take on Post University this Saturday in a rematch of last season's quarterfinals round, which Georgian Court won in Waterbury, Conn., 3-2. The Eagles, #1 in the North Division, knocked off #4S Wilmington University, 3-0, on home turf Monday night.
In other matches, #2N Caldwell University dismissed #3S Jefferson, 3-1, while the #1 overall seed, Holy Family University, needed five frames to eliminate #4N Felician University, 3-2.
Holy Family will now take on Caldwell University Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by Georgian Court-Post at 3:30 p.m. The CACC semifinals, as well as Sunday's Championship match (noon), will be hosted by the Lions in the Wellness Center Arena.
