Philadelphia, Pa. - Riding the hot shooting of five double-digit scorers, Georgian Court University earned its first-ever win at Chestnut Hill College as the Lions dismissed the Griffins, 80-68, Wednesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball divisional action.
The victory pushes the Lions to an even mark of 1-1 in conference play (2-8 overall) while Chestnut Hill falls to 3-7 on the year (0-2 CACC).
Led by 11 first-half points from
Sean Barksdale, GCU escaped the initial stanza with a slim 38-34 advantage. The Lions poured it on in the second session, opening the frame with a 27-9 run to take a commanding 64-43 lead with 8:59 remaining in regulation. The Griffins added a 23-11 spurt of their own to cut the deficit to 75-66 with 1:42 left, but that would be as close as the the home team would get in the eventual setback.
Barksdale ended the evening with a game-high 18 points, 16 of which came from three-point territory.
Caleb Bowser, the team's leading scorer with his average of 19.3 points-per-game, drained 12 in 38 minutes vs. the Griffins.
Bryce Council authored his first double-double of the year with 11 points and a season-best 11 assists.
Matt Ringel and
Kim Speller each poured in 10 points apiece in the big road win.
Liban Awl (Sr.-Manassas, Va.) buried four three-pointers to lead Chestnut Hill with his 16 total points.
GCU now sits idle until Sunday, December 30 (3:00 p.m.) when the Lions journey north to American International College (Springfield, Mass.) for non-conference competition.
