Garden City. N.Y. - The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, coming off a season-opening Saturday split on home turf, ventured away from the friendly confines of the GCU Wellness Center Tuesday evening as the Lions visited Adelphi University in a non-conference road match.
The host-Panthers, playing their first contest of the year, kicked off its 2018 campaign in efficient fashion by dismissing GCU in straight sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-18) to improve to 1-0 out of the gate. The Lions slip to 1-2 with the setback.
Georgian Court had trouble getting things going as the road team collected a subpar .035 hitting percentage on the evening while the victors clubbed 35 kills en route to a mark of .241. The Panthers also dropped in 10 service aces compared to zero for the Lions.
Sara Bisbe, a junior outside hitter from Barcelona, Spain, paced Adelphi with her nine kills and three aces, to go along with a pair of blocks and six digs.
Cara McKenzie (So.-Belchertown, Mass.) amassed nine kills and three blocks in the victory while
Katarina Warburton (Jr.-San Mateo, Calif.) led all players with 27 overall assists.
The Lions, destined for a taciturn journey home, only registered 21 overall kills in the match, led by
Peggy Rosario's team-best five. Freshman
Trilby Kite positioned a GCU-high 10 assists while reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week,
Emily McCurley, controlled a team-high 10 digs.
GCU remains on the road for its next three contests, all of which while be hosted by Stonehill College this weekend in Easton, Mass. The Lions will face off against Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon before taking on the host-Skyhawks at 10:00 a.m. and CACC-foe Felician University at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
