Garden City, N.Y. - The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad knocked off nationally-ranked Adelphi University, 2-0, Saturday evening to earn its first victory of the year in thrilling fashion.

Ranked #13 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II preseason poll, the host-Panthers (1-1) could not slip one past GCU goalkeeper, Jamie Hickey, as the sophomore shot-stopper earned the clutch win and shutout in his first start of the season (seven saves).

Senior Daniel Vicente put the 1-1 Lions on the board first when he buried a penalty kick in the 23rd minute (22:21) of the first half. Louis Silva added an insurance tally at 47:16 (assisted by Nicholas Moran) to secure the signature win for the program. The goal marked the first of Silva's collegiate career.

"This was a well-deserved win for the team," stated Head Coach Dino Raso. "We received hard work from every player and tremendous unity from the guys on the bench. Adjustments were made from Thursday's setback to American International, and it worked."

Adelphi out-shot the victors 16-10 overall with both teams getting off seven shots-on-net.

The Lions now look forward to Monday afternoon when GCU hosts #16 West Chester University at noon on Investors Bank Field in the team's home opener. Georgian Court has never lost to the Golden Rams (2-0 overall).
