Lakewood, N.J.- Hosting its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition of the season, Georgian Court University earned a third straight victory Wednesday with a 4-2 defeat of visiting Chestnut Hill College in women's soccer action.
The Lions climb above the .500 mark (3-2, 2-0 CACC) with the triumph while the Griffins fall to 2-2 overall (1-1 CACC).
GCU attacked early when
Marin Kulenguski ripped her first collegiate goal, courtesy of
Heather Arbachesky's league-leading fifth assist of the year, just 2:06 into the match. Arbachesky contributed a tally of her own in the 19th minute (18:53) when the senior one-timed a
Krystal Hund cross.
Down 2-0 coming out of intermission,
Nicole Cahill (Jr.-Glendora, N.J.) cut the Chestnut Hill deficit in half with her second score of the year at 61:11. The Lions put an end to any comeback attempt soon after when
Anissia Fucci (68:04) and
Shannon Kelly (74:55) each rattled home their first goals of the 2018 campaign to make it 4-1 Georgian Court.
The Lions dominated the shots column with an impressive 30-6 surplus (15-5 SOG) and owned a 10-1 advantage when it came to corner kicks.
Natalie Axelsson earned the "W" in the Georgian Court net with three saves over 90 minutes of work.Â
The victors take to the road this Saturday with a visit to Bloomfield College at 1:30 p.m.
