Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Georgian Court University saw its four-game winning streak snapped Tuesday evening as the Lions were felled at Molloy College, 2-1, in non-conference women's soccer action.
Molloy's
Mikayla Canales (Holbrook, N.Y.) snipped a scoreless stalemate in the 40th minute (39:34) when the junior connected on a rebound to put the home team up, 1-0. GCU answered late in the second half (74:06) as
Kaitlin Lister booted in her third of the year (assist from
Jane Paschen) to knot the contest at 1-1.
The tie would hold for a grand total of 47 seconds when Molloy's
Lexi Verni (Fr.-Patchogue, N.Y.) rattled in the eventual game-winner for the host-Lions at 74:53. Georgian Court outshot Molloy, 20-13 but the victors edged the visitors, 10-9, on frame.
Jackie Carty (So.-East Islip, N.Y) went the distance in the Molloy net for the win (eight saves).
Natalie Axelsson (seven saves) was tagged with the defeat in 76:14 of action.
The Lions return home Saturday afternoon to host Dominican College at 12:00 p.m. in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
