Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, hosting its second tri-match of the young season, welcomed Queens College (NY) and Kutztown University to the Wellness Center Friday as the Lions split a pair of contests when all was said and done.
The Lions opened the afternoon in style as the home team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Queens, defeating the Knights (0-6) by scores of 25-12, 25-8 and 25-11.
Peggy Rosario led the offense with her seven kills, followed by
Shana Rayside with six.
Trilby Kite distributed a match-best 13 assists while registering an impressive six service aces.
Ashley Pierson contributed nine assists while tying
Aubrey Binkley with a team-high seven digs.
In the nightcap, Kutztown University earned every bit of its 3-0 defeat of GCU, edging the Lions 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18. Rosario again paced the Lions above the net with her 11 kills, followed closely by Rayside with nine.
Kite set a new season-high in the assists column with her 18 helpers while Pierson passed along 13 of her own. Kite also controlled 10 digs to complete the first-double-double of her collegiate career. McCurley led all players with 19 digs overall.
KU's
Holly Owen (So.-Hatboro, Pa) supplied a match-high 19 kills in the win for the Golden Bears (6-3).
Georgian Court (5-4) returns to action Tuesday evening with a CACC road contest at Nyack College (6:00 p.m.).
