Caldwell, N.J. - Georgian Court University traveled to Caldwell University Saturday afternoon where the Lions suffered a 67-50 defeat at the hands of the host-Cougars in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action.
The Lions (2-11, 1-3 CACC) led as late as the 9:00 mark of the first half (16-15), before Caldwell (7-7, 3-2 CACC) closed the stanza on a 17-9 run to take a modest 32-25 lead into intermission. The Cougar surplus was never threatened in the second session as the home team increased its lead to a game-high 21 points (66-45) with 3:04 to go in regulation.
Ned Ogoemesim (Jr.-Westhampton, N.J.) served as Caldwell's leading scorer with 17 points on the day.
AJ Kittles (Jr.-Glassboro, N.J.) contributed 14 points, to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and three steals.
Eric Johnson-Alford (Jr.-Clifton, N.J.) and
Vaughn Covington (Jr.-Sicklerville, N.J.) netted 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the victory.
One game after authoring a 30-point, 12-rebound showing for the Lions (Wednesday vs. Wilmington),
Caleb Bowser returned to action at Caldwell with a 21-point performance to top the Lions.
Matt Ringel fell one board short of his team-leading third double-double as the junior finished the day with 12 points and nine rebounds.
GCU returns home Tuesday night when the Lions host the University of the Sciences at 8:00 p.m. in CACC divisional action. Georgian Court has defeated the Devils in the Wellness Center Arena in each of the last two seasons.
