Lakewood, N.J. - University of the Sciences, after falling in the first set (22-25), stood strong the rest of the way as the visiting Devils ripped off three straight wins (25-20, 25-19-25-20) to shock first-place Georgian Court University, 3-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's volleyball divisional action.
The win snaps GCU's five-game overall winning streak (6-1 at home) and marks the Devils first win on the road at Georgian Court since defeating the Lions by the same score back on Nov. 5, 2014. USciences is now 7-10 on the year (4-3 CACC).
USciences dominated at the serve with 14 service aces on the night. In contrast, the Lions struggled with 11 service errors in the match.
Natalia Velez (17 kills, 10 digs) and
Tori Wright (12 kills, 10 digs) paced the victors with double-double efforts for USciences.
Angeli Roman Medina and
Caelin Jaskot dished 20 and 19 assists, respectively, while
Danielle Taylor contributed 10 digs in the win.
Reigning CACC Player of the Week,
Kinsy Haschke, registered her team-leading seventh double-double with 14 kills and 11 assists.
Grace Fenn dazzled at the net with 10 kills (.444 hitting percentage) and six total blocks.
Jaime Sweeney and
Ashley Pierson distributed 21 and 12 helpers apiece.
Emily McCurley paced the Lions with 13 digs.
Georgian Court (14-5, 5-2 CACC) now looks ahead to Saturday when the Lions visit Caldwell University at 4:30 p.m.
