Philadelphia, Pa. - Georgian Court University remains smack in the middle of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference postseason push as the Lions helped their cause immensely Wednesday afternoon with a 3-1 road victory at Holy Family University.
After a scoreless first half,
Javel Dawkins (for the fourth time this season) popped home a successful penalty kick attempt as the senior's fifth goal of the year put the visitors up, 1-0 (60:44). The Lions' lead would hold until 76:31 when HFU'sÂ
Shane Holmes (Sr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) headed in a deflected save to knot the score at 1-1.
The stalemate would last just 2:05 as Dawkins dished a helper to
Nicholas Moran, who promptly gave GCU the lead for good with his first goal of the season. The duo hooked up again at 85:20 when a Dawkins cross connected with a Moran boot to put the win in the bag for the Lions.
Georgian Court owned an overall advantage of 18-11 in the shot column while both clubs ripped six efforts on frame.
Jamie Hickey went the distance in net for the Lions, collecting five saves for the sophomore's fourth win.
The Lions (6-9, 5-4 CACC), currently sitting seventh in the CACC standings, look to improve their position this Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. home match vs. Bloomfield College.
