Lakewood, N.J. - Taking the floor for its final regular-season tune-up before next week's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament, Georgian Court University defeated visiting Dominican College Saturday in straight sets (25-8, 25-18, 27-25).
The Lions, with the victory, move to 27-6 (16-3 CACC) and sit tied atop the CACCÂ South Division standings with Holy Family University. The CACC will announce the postseason matchups later this weekend.
Georgian Court controlled the first two games of the afternoon, but had to rally against the winless Lady Chargers in the final frame. Trailing 22-15, the Lions proceeded to outscore Dominican 12-3 the rest of the way, securing eight of the last nine points of the contest.
Aubrey Binkley dropped a match-best 11 kills in the GCU win (.381 hitting %) while
Amy Bruno continues to crush the ball as the senior floored seven kills on 11 total attempts for an impressive hitting percentage of .545.
Jaime Sweeney and
Ashley Pierson set the table with 13 ans 12 assists, respectively.
Sweeney also led the team with her eight digs on the day.
The Lions will take on either Bloomfield College or Concordia College in Tuesday's CACC quarterfinals. Start time will be 6:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center Arena.
