Georgian Court Men Register Second-Straight Victory With 77-59 Conference Home Win vs. Chestnut Hill

Lakewood, N.J. - For the first time in program history, Georgian Court University men's basketball is undefeated in conference play as the Lions handled visiting Chestnut Hill College, 77-59, Tuesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition.

GCU (2-4, 1-0 CACC), winners of two-straight, snaps a six-game losing streak (dating back to 2013-14) in CACC openers as the Lions earned their third-consecutive triumph over the Griffins (0-7,0-1 CACC).

Trailing 12-11 with 10:51 remaining in the first half, Georgian Court exploded for a 20-3 run to take a commanding 31-15 lead with 5:37 left in the stanza. The 16-point cushion came in handy as the Griffins evaporated most of it thanks to a 16-3 surge of their own, making the score 34-31 GCU with just 0:56 left before intermission.

Up by only three coming out of the locker room, the Lions were never threatened in the second half as the home team increased its lead to a game-best 22 points (74-52), thanks to a pair of Justin Figueroa free throws with 1:18 to go in regulation.

Five Lions sported double-digit scoring efforts in the win, topped by Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor and his game-high 20 points. Matt Ringel, coming off the GCU bench, contributed a double-double consisting of 13 points and 11 boards. Figueroa and Shane Williams each added 12 points apiece while Caleb Bowser followed with 11 of his own. Kim Speller was a beast at the glass as the junior snared 10 rebounds for the victors.

Eli Barrett (Jr.-Harrisburg, Pa.) paced the Griffins with his double-double performance of 17 points and 16 rebounds (two blocks).

The Lions remain in conference play this Saturday as GCU pays a visit to CACC rival University of the Sciences at 3:00 p.m.
