Philadelphia, Pa.- Georgian Court University continues to play inspired hoops as the Lions rallied back from a double-digit deficit in the first half and escaped with their third-straight victory as GCU mowed down host-University of the Sciences, 73-62, Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action.
Undefeated in conference play at 2-0 for the first time in program history, the Lions (3-4) have collected its first three-game winning streak since January of the 2015-16 campaign.
Trailing 21-8 with 9:22 left in the first half, Georgian Court responded with a 25-9 run to go ahead (33-30) with just 00:48 remaining before intermission. Opening the second stanza tied at 33-all, the Devils (2-6, 0-2 CACC) ran off a 7-3 spurt to go up by four (40-36) 1:57 in.
The Lions took control from that point forward, firing off a 14-2 sprint to take a 50-42 advantage with 13:59 left in regulation. GCU never let off the gas the rest of the way and refused to relinquished its lead as the road warriors increased its surplus to a game-high 13 points after a pair of
Bryce Council free throws made the score 73-60 Georgian Court with just 1:50 left.
Four Lions netted double-digit scoring efforts in the divisional victory, topped by
Caleb Bowser and his 18 points. The GCU senior also contributed eight boards, eight assists and a pair of swipes.
Justin Figueroa added 12 points in the "W" while Council and
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor dropped in 10 points apiece.
Sean Simon (So.-Philadelphia, Pa.) topped USciences with his 16 points while
Jordan White (R So.-Tampa, Fla.) authored a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Georgian Court gets to bask in the glory of its current success for quite a while as the Lions do not return to action until Tuesday, December 17 when they host Millersville University at 6:00 p.m.
