Georgian Court Wins Second Straight After Saturday's 68-67 Nipping of Nyack

Lakewood, N.J. - Matt Ringel's resounding rejection of a potential go-ahead baseline jumper by Nyack College with just 0:02 remaining in regulation sent the capacity crowd into a frenzy as the denial secured a slim 68-67 victory over the visiting Warriors, providing Georgian Court University back-to-back victories for the first time since January of last season (Jan.24-Jan. 28, 2018).

The contest kicked off inauspiciously for the home team as Nyack (4-17, 3-10 CACC) jumped out to a healthy 24-10 lead just 9:39 into the first half. A Jah-Meer McDuffie (Jr.-Syracuse, N.Y.) jumper wth 6:53 left  made the score 32-19 Warriors before the Lions ignited a furious 21-3 run to escape into intermission with a 40-35 surplus.

GCU's lead would grow to as many as 11 points on three separate occasions in the second stanza. After a Ringel fast-break layup put the Lions ahead by 10 (61-51) with 8:53 left, it was Nyack's turn to become the comeback kids as the Warriors whipped up a 12-1 spurt to go ahead, 63-62, with 3:37 to go.

The two teams would exchange five more lead changes and a tie over the remaining minutes, a volley that would come to an end after Caleb Bowser's go-ahead jumper with 1:59 left put the Lions ahead for good. The junior netted a team-high 27 points on the day, providing him his 10th game with 20 or more points this season.

Bryce Council poured in 14 points in the win, including a season-high three three-pointers, while Ringel registered 13 points, eight boards and a game-best seven blocks.

Curtis Thompson (Jr.-Burlington, N.J.) matched Bowser by leading Nyack with 27 points in 40 minutes of action. Calvin Willis (Sr.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) snagged a game-high 13 rebounds in the effort.

The Lions now take to the road for a visit to Wilmington University this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. GCU looks to avenge an 89-77 home loss to the Wildcats back on Jan. 2 in the Wellness Center Arena.
