Lions Strike First, Unable to Hold On in 2-1 Defeat at #1 West Chester

West Chester, Pa. - Playing its second match in a week vs. the #1 team in the nation, Georgian Court University traveled to West Chester University to take on the top-seeded Golden Rams Friday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action.

Having been blanked in their first two contests of the 2019 campaign, GCU finally snapped its personal shutout streak in the sixth minute of action (5:21) when Tommaso Rio sent in a Daniel Vicente feed to give the road team an early 1-0 advantage. The surplus would prove to be short-lived as West Chester's Craig Potts (So.-Stewartstown, Pa.) netted his first of the year to knot the score at 1-1 in the 12th minute (11:21).

The stalemate would stand at one-all until the second half (47:10) at which time Ryan Belfiore (Fr.-Bel Air, Pa.) poured in the eventual game-winner. Colin Muller (Jr.-Bethlehem, Pa.) provided assists on both West Chester tallies.

The victory improves the Golden Rams to 2-1 on the year and marks the program's first-ever victory vs. Georgian Court in four overall outings (1-3) vs. the Lions.

WCU owned an overall shot advantage of 15-9 (9-4 shots-on-goal). Daniel Good (Fr.-Exton, Pa.) earned the win for the victors with three total saves over 90:00. Yianni Kavarakas collected seven saves (90:00) for Georgian Court.

The Lions (0-3) continue their pursuit of the win column as they prepare to make their 2019 home debut Tuesday afternoon (3:30 p.m.) vs. #2 Adelphi University.
