Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University, playing the top team in the nation for the third time in just four outings this season, opened the 2019 home slate Tuesday afternoon vs. #1 Adelphi University. 

The Lions, who already have taken on former top squads Barry University and West Chester University earlier this month, could not hang with the visiting Panthers as GCU suffered a 4-0 setback to fall to 0-4 on the young season.

Paolo Marciano (So.-Capaccio, Italy) registered a pair of tallies (including the game-winner) in the Adelphi victory. Flippo Peri (So.-Leno, Italy) and Taylor Kaczynski (Sr.-Dix Hills, N.Y.) accounted for the remaining Panther goals at 54:19 and 58:32, respectively. Aidan Keenan (Sr.-East Islip, N.Y.) provided helpers on two of the Adelphi scoring efforts.

Despite the outcome, the Lions still out-shot Adelphi, 19-14, while both clubs put eight shots each on frame. Matt Apicella (Sr.-Monroe, N.Y.) improved to 4-0 in the Panthers' net with five saves over 81:41.  Yianni Kavarakas took the loss for GCU while making three saves in 65:29.

Georgian Court opens CACC action this Saturday with a 7:45 p.m. road contast at Dominican College.
