Lakewood, N.J.- Georgian Court University's 2019 home debut did not go as hoped as visiting Molloy College ruined the day by escaping with a 3-1 victory in Saturday's  non-conference battle of the Lions.

Molloy (2-1-1) attacked right away as the visiting Lions tickled the twine just 00:40 into the match after Lexi Verni (So.-Patchogue, N.Y.) sent in an initial Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.) rebound off the crossbar to go ahead 1-0.  The surplus would hold until the 56th-minute (55:37) when reigning CACC Rookie of the Year, Krystal Hund, netted her first tally of the year after gathering an Aliya Canfield helper and sprinting down the left sideline for the score.

Late-game drama came out in full force in the 85th-minute when a costly Georgian Court infraction set the table for a Molloy penalty-kick attempt. GCU keeper, Alyssa Dias, made a dandy of a diving save off the effort by Poetzsch, but Lauren Marinello (Jr.-Merrick, N.Y.) was right there to pop in the rebound to put the road team ahead, 2-1 (84:21).

After coming oh-so-close on two previous attempts, Poetzsch finally found the back of the net with just 22 ticks remaining after a mad dash from the mid-line resulted in the junior's team-leading third goal of the young year.

Despite the result, GCU out-shot Molloy, 18-17, but it would be the visiting Lions that would top the hometown version, 13-9, when it came to shots-on-goal. Jackie Carty (Jr.-East Islip, N.Y.) collected seven saves in the complete-game win for Molloy. Dias registered 10 saves for Georgian Court in the valiant effort.

It is a quick turnaround for Georgian Court (1-2) as the Lions return to action Sunday at noon when they welcome Le Moyne College to campus.
