Georgian Court Wraps Up Day One of Wilmington Invite With Pair of Regional Triumphs

Newark, Del. -Georgian Court University opened the Wilmington University Wildcat Regional Invitational in fine fashion Friday as the Lions secured a pair of victories to improve to 5-1 on the year.

The Lions kicked off the competition with a strong showing vs. American International College as GCU swatted the Yellow Jackets, 3-2 (25-20, 13-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10). Aubrey Binkley contributed a double-double effort consisting of 12 kills and a dozen digs in the triumph while Kinsy Haschke floored 11 kills and controlled eight digs of her own.

Emily McCurley matched Binkley in the digs column (12). Jaime Sweeney (18 assists, nine digs) fell just of a double-double performance while Trilby Kite equaled her teammate with 18 helpers in the win. Shana Rayside and Grace Fenn patrolled the net with six and five blocks, respectively.

GCU proceeded to wrap up the afternoon by downing the Dolphins of Le Moyne College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) in the nightcap.

Haschke paced the Lions' offense with a team-high 11 kills to go along with seven digs. The duo of Binkley and  Fenn garnered nine kills each while McCurley dished 11 digs and eight assists.

Kite led the squad with her 17 assists. Sweeney distributed 15 aiders to go along with seven digs. Rayside added six kills and three more rejections.

The Lions, winners of four straight, return to action Saturday on the final day the event with matches vs. Franklin Pierce University (12:00 p.m.) and Adelphi University (4:00 p.m.).
