Orangeburg, N.Y. -
Aliya Canfield netted a pair of tallies, including the game-winner, as Georgian Court University came from behind to edge host-Dominican College, 3-2, in Saturday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer season-opener.
Trailing 1-0 just 4:59 into the contest, the aforementioned Canfield (14:02) and teammate
Krystal Hund poured in back-to-back goals just 5:09 apart to put the visitors ahead, 2-1, at the 19:11 mark. Dominican's
Megan Geary (So.-Campbell Hall, N.Y.) proceeded to net the equalizer at 35:34 to send the game into intermission locked at 2-2.
The score would remain knotted until the 65th minute (64:55) when Canfield hammered home the defection of an initial shot by
Kaitlin Lister (two assists) to secure the always-crucial conference victory. For Canfield, the effort represents the freshman's first collegiate game-clincher, as well as her first multi-goal scoring effort.
GCU owned a healthy 18-9 shot margin, including an 8-3 advantage on frame.
Anetha Jenkins earned the win (2-0) for the Lions after replacing starter
Alyssa Dias at halftime.
The Lions (3-3) now return home to host Wilmington University this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in more CACCÂ action.
