Lakewood, N.J. - Feeding off the energy of the electric atmosphere of Georgian Court University's Reunion & Homecoming weekend festivities, the GCU men's soccer squad rallied to earn its first home victory of the season, a 2-0 shutout of visiting Felician University.
The contest remained scoreless until the 37th-minute (36:57) when
Javel Dawkins took advantage of one of 12 Felician infractions on the day and popped in a successful penalty kick opportunity for his first goal of the year.
Landry Cheta added the always-important insurance tally in the second half (63:50) after netting his own rebound to essentially seal the win for the Lions (2-5, 2-1 CACC).
Ryan Baird (1-0), making his first career start in frame for the Georgian Court, earned the complete-game shutout victory in his debut (two saves). The Lions outshot the Golden Falcons, 23-8, with a mighty 16-2 surplus on goal.
GCU next takes to the pitch Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they host #9 Mercy College in non-conference competition.
