Men's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Blanking at #1 Barry to Open 2019 Slate

Miami Shores, Fla. - The 2019 men's soccer season is underway as Georgian Court University traveled to South Florida to take on the reigning NCAA Division II champions, and #1 team in the nation, Barry University.

In the third overall meeting between the two squads, and first since 2015, it would again be the Buccaneers that would prevail as the home team bested the Lions, 2-0. Barry improves to 1-0 on the year and 3-0 all-time vs. GCU.

A Kasper Hedegaard (Fr.-Nykoebing Mors, Denmark) header off an initial Barry corner kick at the 9:15 mark of the first half provided the Bucs an early 1-0 advantage. An insurance tally was netted at 55:28 (second half) when Francisco Greco (So.-Buenos Aries, Argentina) sent in a rebound goal from 12 yards out to provide the two-goal cushion.

The victors out-shot the Lions, 15-13 (8-6 shots-on-goal) in the contest. Mirko Ronchi (Jr.-Cornaredo, Italy) registered the win between the Barry pipes (six saves). Yianni Kavarakas earned the start for GCU, also compiling six saves over 90:00.

Georgian Court (0-1) returns to action Sunday morning (11:00 a.m.) with a visit to Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
