Second-Half Surge Comes Up Just Short for Georgian Court as Concordia Claims 83-80 Road Win

Lakewood, N.J. - Trailing by 22 with 14:48 to go in regulation, Georgian Court University proceeded to mount a furious 41-22 run over the remaining time before visiting Concordia University was saved by the bell as the Clippers barely survived with an 83-80 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball victory Saturday in the Wellness Center.

Aside from an initial 2-0 deficit to start the contest, Concordia (3-14, 2-5 CACC)  never trailed as the visitors closed the first half of action with a 45-37 advantage. The Clippers kicked off the second stanza on a 16-2 flurry to go ahead 61-39 at which time the Lions commenced their desperate comeback.

The victors shot 53.3% from the floor, sinking 32-of-60 field goal attempts. Jesse Breeding (Sr.-Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and Dion Herrington (Fr.-Englewood, N.J.) carried the Clippers' offense with 23 and 20 points, respectively. Dan Porcic (Fr.-Putnam, Conn.) and Jared Young (Jr.-Mount Vernon, N.Y.) followed with 13 and 11 points each.

Four Lions reached double-digits in the scoring column, topped by Caleb Bowser and his 21 points. Matt Ringel jotted 12 points and eight boards in 13 minutes off the GCU bench. Kim Speller secured a double-double for Georgian Court with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jelani Jackson also pocketed 10 points on the day.

GCU (6-8, 4-3 CACC) now looks ahead to Tuesday when the Lions host Goldey-Beacom College (7-10, 4-4 CACC) at 8:00 p.m. for a must-see divisional contest.
