Men's Hoops Returns to Win Column After Taking Holy Family In OT, 73-69

Philadelphia, Pa. - In contest that took eight days to complete, Georgian Court University and Holy Family University went to overtime Thursday as the visiting Lions outlasted the Tigers, 73-69, to improve to 5-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball standings.

The game, which originally commenced last Wednesday (Jan. 15), was suspended with Holy Family owning a 32-28 lead before a bent rim during halftime warmups caused the postponement.

With the two squads reconvening to play the second stanza, both sides kept it close throughout the period with six stalemates occurring over the 20-minute session. Trailing by five (45-40) with 11:48 to go, Georgian Court exploded for a 10-0 run to create a five-point cushion of its own (50-45) with 7:16 left.

Holy Family (5-13, 2-7 CACC) proceeded to outscore its guest, 7-2, over the next 3:52 to tie the affair at 52-all at the 3:24 mark. A subsequent three-point lead for GCU would again be wiped out by the Tigers as a pair of successful free throws from Devon Moore (Jr.-Hanover, Pa.) with 28 seconds left forced the extra session.

Georgian Court opened overtime with a Caleb Bowser three-ball to scoot ahead, 60-57. Holy Family responded to even the score on two occasions over the five-minute frame, but could not overcome the Lions at any point as GCU lead by as many as four points three times to hold off the Tigers.

The victory snaps a five-game overtime losing streak for Georgian Court marking the Lions' first OT win since Dec. 30, 2017 vs. Chestnut Hill College (98-95).

Bowser led all players with his 26 points, including a 10-of-12 shooting effort from the charity stripe. Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor knocked down a trio of three-pointers, finishing with 18 points and seven boards in the triumph. Justin Figueroa totaled 11 points in 24 minutes off the GCU bench while Kim Speller topped the team with 11 rebounds and four swipes.

Bryce Council, with his six assists, tied former teammate Juwuan Carter (2014-2018) atop the Lions' all-time list with 223 career helpers.

The Lions (7-9 overall) return to action Sunday afternoon (5:00 p.m.) with a visit to Dominican College (13-5, 6-3 CACC).
