Lakewood, N.J. - Another sluggish start for Georgian Court University set the tone early Saturday as the home team, unable to rebound from a 46-28 halftime deficit, suffered its third-straight defeat with a 79-66 CACC home loss to visiting Post University.
Aside from an early 4-2 deficit at the start of the contest, the Eagles (17-8, 11-5 CACC) never trailed in the game. Up by a slim 7-6 margin at the 16:56 mark of the first half, Post pounded the Lions with a 34-15 surge to take a comfortable 19-point advantage (41-22) with 4:24 left before intermission.
Despite being outscored by a 38-33 margin in the second stanza, the Post lead was never truly threatened as the Eagles fluffed their cushion to a game-high 21 points (59-38) with 13:19 remaining in regulation.
D.J. Jarrett (Sr.-Waterbury, Conn.) topped the Post offense with 16 points in 18 minutes off the Eagles' bench.
Savion Boissard (Sr.-Walden, N.Y.) added 15 points in the win while
Devonte McCall (RSo.-Amherst, Mass.) authored a double-double performance consisting of 13 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out.
Matt Ringel made the most of his starting opportunity as the Georgian Court senior shined with his 18 points and 13 rebounds, resulting in his third double-double of the season.
Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor and
Justin Figueroa followed with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while
Kim Speller snagged a game-high 14 boards.
GCU (8-14, 6-9 CACC) still currently owns the #4 seed in the CACC South Division playoff hunt. The Lions face a mighty test Tuesday when they visit first-place Jefferson (22-2, 15-0 CACC) at 8:00 p.m. The Rams edged Georgian Court, 74-71, in the teams' previous meeting back on Dec. 19 in the Wellness Center.
