Dramatic Comeback Falls Short As Bloomfield Holds On To Defeat Lions, 67-64

Bloomfield, N.J. - Trailing by 11 points a the half, and by 16 early in the second half, Georgian Court mounted a furious comeback that fell just short in the end as the Lions ultimately dropped a 67-64 decision at the hands of Bloomfield College Saturday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's hoops action.

Coming out of the break with a 34-23 advantage, the Bears (12-11, 8-6 CACC) increased its surplus to a game-high lead of 41-25, courtesy of a Matt Lajeunesse (Sr.-Union, N.J.) jumper from the paint at the 17:59 mark. Georgian Court's Matt Ringel countered with a three-pointer at 17:34, kicking off an emphatic 28-8 run to provide the road team a four-point lead (53-49) with 9:35 remaining in regulation.

Bloomfield immediately bounced back with an 11-0 spurt to go up by seven (60-53) with 5:49 left. The Lions would battle to tie the contest on three separate occasions, with the final stalemate coming with only 1:12 to go. However, a Lajeunesse lay-in with 0:58 on the clock put the home team for good, halting the GCU dramatics.

Safee Abdus-Sabur (Sr.-Newark, N.J.) led the Bears with a game-high 19 points in the effort while teammate, Dontay Julius (Sr.-Linden, N.J.), landed 18 points of his own.

Coming off his team-record 37 points in Tuesday's home win over Holy Family University, Caleb Bowser poured in another 17 to pace the Lions. Bryce Council, Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor and Ringel added 13 points apiece in the setback.

GCU (8-12, 6-7 CACC) looks to rebound Wednesday evening when the Lions host divisional rival, USciences (5-16, 3-11 CACC), at 8:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center.
