Lakewood, N.J. - Coming off a sour stretch during which they lost four of five matches, Georgian Court University has returned to its winning ways as the Lions collected their third-straight triumph Wednesday evening with an epic 3-2 home win vs. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Chestnut Hill College.
After falling in the first set to the visiting Griffins, 25-17, Georgian Court grabbed the next two games by scores of 25-20 and 25-21. Chestnut Hill, (2-11, 0-7 CACC) hungry for its first conference victory, snared a 25-23 win in the fourth set before eventually cracking in the fifth-and-final by a 15-12 count.
Kinsy Haschke (17 kills, 11 digs) and
Trilby Kite (22 assists, 14 digs) shined with their ninth and eighth double-doubles of the season, respectively.
Grace Fenn floored 12 kills in the five-setter while
Amiyah Woods, in her first collegiate start, drilled eight kills with a hitting percentage of .467.
Jessica Sprankle settled a team-best 15 digs in the win.
Georgian Court soared defensively as the Lions combined for 26 blocking assists, paced by
Nahomie Alejandro Negron and her 10 such efforts.
Ava Venneri, also cracking starting lineup for the first time in her collegiate career, slammed six kills (including the match-clincher), to go along with five blocking assists and 10 digs.
Faith Bennett fell just short of her own double-double performance with 20 helpers and nine digs.
The Lions (15-5, 6-3 CACC) now ride high into the weekend as GCU hosts Felician University (10:00 a.m.) and American International College (2:00 p.m.) Saturday in a special Homecoming Day tri-match.
