Lions Knock Off #13 Wilmington, 3-2, in Overtime Thriller ... Take Over Top-Spot in CACC Standings With Road Win

Newark, Del. - Georgian Court University, having lost its first national ranking (#21) since 2018 thanks to a 4-1 weekend loss at Post University, rebounded in a major way Wednesday as the Lions knocked off #13 Wilmington University on the road with a 3-2 overtime upset of the Wildcats (13-2-1, 7-2 CACC).

The victory pushes GCU to the top of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings as the royal-and-gold moves to 10-1-3 (7-1-1 CACC) on the year.

Overtime was the furthest thing from the minds of the Lions as the road team compiled a 2-0 first-half surplus, courtesy of tallies off the boots of Louis Silva (4:46) and Mathias Madersbacher (31:16). Wilmington's Carson Talboys (Huntersville, N.C.) took matters into his own hands as the graduate student poured in a pair by himself late in the contest (75:18 and 81:29) to force the extra session.

With the match knotted at 2-2, Georgian Court's Noah Hamouda connected for the biggest moment of his young collegiate career as the freshman from Forked River, N.J. ripped home a rebound of an initial Silva shot to seal the win just 4:01 into the overtime session.

Having already established new program single-season records for total points (41) and assists (9), Silva is one goal away from tying Michael Clarke's season record of 17, set in 2015.

Gianluca Cersosimo went the distance (94:01) in net for the victors, collecting six saves to improve his personal ledger to to 10-1-3.

First-place GCU returns to campus this Saturday to host Nyack College at 2:30 p.m. in another CACC clash.
