Lakewood, N.J. -
Abby Kennelly's first collegiate goal proved to be a season-saver for Georgian Court University as the freshman's tally provided the Lions with an eventual 1-0 triumph over visiting Nyack College Saturday, keeping GCU's hopes for a postseason berth alive in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) standings.
With the victory, the royal-and-gold improve to 6-9 with a 5-5 mark in CACC play. At the close of conference play on this day, the Lions currently own the sixth-seed with one more CACC match left on the docket (Wednesday vs. Holy Family University).
Kennelly's game-winner came early on in Saturday's contest (6:26) as the Brick, N.J. native gathered and dashed with an
Aliya Canfield feed from midfield before making a deposit in the Nyack net. The Lions owned a slim 10-9 shots advantage in the effort with the Warriors posting a 5-4 surplus on frame.
Alyssa Dias garnered five saves in the complete-game shutout effort for the victors (90:00), as the junior net-minder moves to 5-8 on the year.
Before hosting aforementioned Holy Family, the Lions trek to Adelphi University Monday at 2:00 p.m. for a non-conference tilt.
