Lakewood. N.J. - For the second-straight outing, Georgian Court University let a second-half surplus slip away as visiting Holy Family University upended the host-Lions, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular-season finale for both squads.
After over 84 minutes of scoreless soccer, GCU snapped the stalemate at 84:12 when
Jonathan Firmino one-timed a perfect
Louis Silva cross for his second score of the year. The Georgian Court euphoria existed for a mere 1:14 (85:26) as HFU's
Davis Habilaj controlled a long feed from
Mohamed Elgayar and deposited his seventh of the season for the tie.
With the score knotted at 1-1, the Tigers connected for a true gut punch at 87:31 when a punt off the boot of HFU goalkeeper,
Mark Tobin, bounded over a drawn-in Georgian Court defense and found
Sean Touey (fifth of season) for the unlikeliest of game-winners.
The victory put the victors at 6-4-1 (7-8-2 overall) in CACC competition while Georgian Court limps to 7-3-1 (10-3-3). Because of the result, a rematch has been cemented for Monday's 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinals as the now #5-seed Tigers will return to the GCU campus at 2:00 p.m. to take on the newly-branded #4 Lions.
Before next week's postseason tilt, Georgian Court concludes the regular-season calendar with a non-conference home game vs. Queens College (NY) this Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
