Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Playing the finale of its two-game Florida set Thursday evening, Georgian Court University netted a season-high point output in what would be a 111-82 non-conference setback at #9 Nova Southeastern University. The contest marks the first-ever between the two men's basketball programs.
The undefeated Sharks (9-0) never trailed in the contest, building a first-half lead of 24 points (43-19) at the 7:53 mark of the session. Georgian Court counterattacked with a 35-19 run that carried into the second frame, slicing the Nova lead to just eight with 18:47 to go. The home team proceeded to launch a 45-15 surge that put the game well out of hand as the Sharks developed a game-high 38-point advantage of 101-63 with 6:26 left.
RJ Sunahara (RS So.-Bay Village, Ohio) authored a double-double performance for the victors, recording 30 points and 10 rebounds in the triumph.
Nick Smith (Sr.-Pittsburgh, Pa.) enjoyed a double-double of his own with 15 points and 10 assists. Overall, five Sharks posted double-digit scoring efforts.
For the second-straight outing, DJ Alicea paced the Georgian Court offense as the sophomore scored a team-best 17 points (four three-pointers) in only 13 minutes of action.
Davon Floyd and
Clint Wright, Jr. followed with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while
Titus Beard (13 points) and
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (10 points) each achieved double-digits in the scoring column.
Georgian Court (2-9) returns to campus to host Wilmington University in CACC divisional action on Thursday, December 30. Tip is slated for 2:00 p.m.
