Fast and Furious Finish Sees USciences Overcome Georgian Court for Conference Win ... Lions' Wright Exceeds 20-Points for Second-Straight Contest

Lakewood, N.J. - Owning a 65-60 advantage with 2:15 left in regulation, Georgian Court University lost its grasp of the momentum as the University of the Sciences concocted a comeback formula, authoring a 9-0 sprint to close the contest and secure a 69-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional road win Saturday afternoon.

The victory marks the first of the season for the Devils (1-5, 1-0 CACC) while the Lions drop to 1-6 (0-2 CACC) in the sour setback.

USciences never trailed in the first half, developing a game-high 11-point cushion (19-8) just 7:56 after the opening tip. Down 30-21 with 6:15 left before the break, GCU rallied to rattle off an 8-3 spurt to cut the deficit to four points (33-29) heading into intermission.

A Sean Simon (Sr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) three-pointer at the 17:09 mark of the second stanza pushed the Devils lead to 42-36. Georgian Court gathered the guts to fire off a 9-0 run of its own to take its first lead of the contest at 13:37 when an Andreas Vonfricke three-pointer snapped a 45-45 tie.

After a brief takeover by USciences, Clint Wright Jr. sank a three of his own (one of a team-high four on the day) at 5:38 to put the Lions back ahead, 56-55. The Lions would own a cushion until an Austin Kennedy (Gr.-Medford, N.J.) lay-up knotted the score at 65-65 with 70 seconds left. Matthew McCaffery's (So.-Haddon Heights, N.J.) subsequent free throws at 0:14 ultimately sealed the win for the road team.

Simon and Jordan Davidson (R-Jr., Piscataway, N.J.) paced the Devils' offense with 16 points apiece in the win. Tommy Gardler (So.-Broomall, Pa.) added 13 points in just 12 minutes off the USciences bench while Kennedy contributed 10 points of his own.

Wright Jr., after contributing 28 points at Goldey-Beacom College earlier this week, added 23 more on this day in a complete 40 minutes. The sophomore has hit for 17 three-pointers over a trio of contests since Monday. Shane Williams enjoyed a 14-point showing and three treys of his own. Jelani Jackson added 12 points and five helpers while Vonfricke closed the afternoon with 11 points.

GCU stays in divisional play as the Lions visit Holy Family University Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
